Meet The Guys Behind Jack of Hearts

Fifty Cents & A Conversation

Jack of Hearts started with two friends, a conversation at the American Legion, a game of darts, and a shared belief that not every student’s future looks the same.
While talking over drinks one evening, Jack Prentiss and Justin Love began discussing the importance of trade schools, certifications, and hands-on careers for local students. They believed college is not the only path to success — and that students pursuing skilled trades deserve encouragement, support, and opportunity too.
As the conversation grew, so did the idea.
The question became:
“Do you have any money?”
“Nope… do you?”
One had a quarter. The other had a quarter too.
That simple moment — fifty cents and a conversation — became the beginning of Jack of Hearts.
Sitting there at the American Legion, they even sketched the original Jack of Hearts logo on a napkin while talking about ways they could give back to the Bastrop County community.
What started as a small idea between friends has since grown into scholarship opportunities, fundraising events, community outreach, and support for students pursuing trade schools, technical certifications, and career education.
Today, Jack of Hearts continues to believe that every student deserves a path toward a meaningful future — whether that path leads to a university, a welding shop, a cosmetology program, an apprenticeship, or a technical career.
